    The Kalama Chinooks broke open a tight Central League football game with 18 third quarter points to key a 36-14 win over the Wahkiakum Mules last Friday. Kalama led 6-0 at halftime and pulled ahead 12-0 early in the third quarter.     The Wahkiakum Mules volleyball team lost two games at home this week, bringing their record to 2-4 in league and 5-8 overall. Last Thursday, the Lady Mules lost to Toutle Lake at home in three sets, 26-28, 18-25, and 16-25. "We started out with tons of energy that slowly petered off as the match progressed," Coach Kayli Hurley said.     The Wahkiakum Mules lost two games and won one this week to bring their record to 2-2 in league and 5-7 overall. The Lady Mules picked up a non-league game against Hudson Bay in Vancouver last Wednesday and lost in four sets, 25-23, 17-25, 27-29, 25-27.     Toledo's Riverhawks overcame a Wahkiakum Mule rally and left Cathlamet with a 47-14 Central League football victory last Friday. Toledo led 21-0 as the second quarter was coming to an end when the Mules struck back.     The 2022 Wahkiakum Mule football team will start their season with more players than last season and a good number of experienced upper classmen. The Mules start the season with 26 athletes turning out. They started the 2021 season with 17 players and ended with 21, Coach Ryan Lorenzo said.
