To The Eagle: Wishing all happiness and joy, I implore all to be safe and help protect ourselves and neighbors. As we traverse through these challenging times of differing views, I implore all to think for themselves rather than believing the constant bombardment of bizarre statements. Please do your own research, don't rely on others to form your truths for you. As vaccines become available I personally will receive one, as I hope most of us will. It will in my view, be the best way to start down what will be a long path to some sort of...
To The Eagle: Thanks for the two laughs while reading last week’s paper. Misinformation is rampant as two quotes exposed. “Vaccines are safe… The side effects are far outweighed by the disease you would get if you fail to get the vaccine.” This statement is true, but totally failed to directly acknowledge and boldly state that Covid vaccines do not prevent “infection” they only reduce the severity if you should become infected. Neither Pfizer nor Moderna vaccines provide “immunity” to the Covid virus (Google: Pfizer, Moderna, Mayo Clinc, CDC...
To The Eagle: The person writing the article in last week’s Eagle regarding wearing masks doesn’t seem to understand the #101 basics of wearing masks. Yes, they protect the person wearing it, but more importantly, wearing a mask lessens the chance of spreading the disease to others. Not wearing a mask while unknowingly infected can infect many, many people. Accordingly, mask wearing is a common sense safety courtesy. I repeat, a safety courtesy. Her overall article is so polarized it hardly warrants a comment. I do wonder though what she wou...
Submitted by Bill Tawater Commander/Adjutant VFW Wahkiakum Post 5297 On Monday, we recalled an event on December 7, 1941, that forever changed the United States of America. Seventy-nine years ago, the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Empire of Japan awoke a sleeping giant, and with it tested both the will of the American people like never before and produced what has been call the “Greatest Generation." President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s address to Congress the day after Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor, declaring our nation at war, is perhaps the mo...
To The Eagle: To individuals’ complaints regarding non-mask wearers, what is your problem? You’re wearing a mask supposedly to protect you from the virus and non-mask wearers. Do we spit or cough at your face? In fact, we respectfully stand at a distance. So what is your problem? I am not going to repeat myself but I stand by what I wrote in my past letters. Now that many months have gone by I am curious to know what the statistics are of those that got sick mask or no mask. Joe who claims he’s president even though President Trump hasn...
To The Eagle: Two important news stories have been suppressed by the mainstream media: Three vote fraud cases have wended their way through the states and will arrive at the Supreme Court by the end of this week. In a fourth case the State of Texas filed suit against four other states for changing election law in direct violation of the U.S. Constitution, thus disenfranchising Texas voters. This case qualifies to go directly to the Supreme Court. Trump has not conceded, MAGA enthusiasts are rallying by the thousands, and the Biden gang is...
To The Eagle: We learned from the County Health department today that if more people installed the “WA NOTIFY” application on their Smart Phones, the community will benefit from increased ability to track and isolate Covid-19 cases in Wahkiakum County. In fact, we understand that if 60-70 percent of smart phone users installed the application, the need for lockdowns and pain to citizens and businesses might be reduced or diminished. Any degree of community use can only help. We installed the WA NOTIFY app. The process was simple. On our And...
To The Eagle: I am very curious, wondering if you, as many Republicans do, think that the election was fraudulent? People of my generation, from World War II in Europe, live permanently in a peculiar state of heightened vigilance. We are clearly more sensitized to the persisting threat of fascism than those who don’t feel or understand the darkness with the same intimacy. I have been acutely aware of this, throughout Trump’s move into politics! Democracy is government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them dir...
To The Eagle: Cholera is a terrible infectious diarrhea caused by the toxic cholera bacterium. It causes 3 million cases and 95,000 deaths each year worldwide. Unfiltered, untreated drinking water is the leading cause of cholera contagion. In India, women in 27 Bangladeshi villages, where drinking water is generally scooped from a river or canal, were taught to cover the urns they used for fetching water, with an old folded sari (a shawl-like garment). Over the next 18 months the rate of cholera in these villages dropped by about 90 percent,...
To The Eagle: U.S. Covid deaths by age group: 55 & older: 92 percent - 25 and younger: 0.5 percent. U.S. Covid recovery rate: Under 70: 99 percent - Over 70: 94 percent. U.S. Covid death rate (approx) 0.2 percent. Covid in Wahkiakum county population: Cases: 0.5 percent; Deaths: 0. Number of vaccines available in December due to President Trump’s Warp Speed program – three. The website gbdeclaration.org provides accurate data and commentary showing the deadly futility of lockdowns and school closures. Draw your own conclusions. Howard Bra...
Throughout the fall season, The Eagle has printed letters to the editor reflecting a wide range of opinion. We have long been committed to providing that forum. Note that these, for the most part, are opinions. As seen on the increasingly widespread use of digital media such as Facebook and Twitter, some might well be labeled as lacking veracity. Moving on, there has been debate over the effectiveness of wearing masks to prevent the spread of the covid-19 virus. Our local, state and federal health professionals have all come to recommend the...
To The Eagle: Local conservative reactionaries can be relied upon to rant that a national health care program (socialist medicine!) and tax laws that would impel the hyper-rich to pay their fair share ( Marxist redistribution of wealth!) will “turn us into another Venezuela,” but what’s really making us look like a banana republic lately is the President of the United States using the power of his office to try to overturn, by any means necessary, the fair and democratic election that will remove him from office. The integrity of this natio...
To The Eagle: We are frequent visitors to Erickson Park with our yellow lab Berkeley enjoying our walks around the park. The park is being well maintained and looks great. Kudos to the town’s landscape person for doing such a fine job maintaining our park. The restrooms are currently in need of repair and need new restroom doors installed! To discourage vandalism the town should consider installing a security video camera that will monitor the restroom and shelter areas. Additionally, placing more gravel in the parking lot to eliminate the m...
To The Eagle: Here we go again; another lockdown. I don’t like to label but it seems it’s mostly the Democrat states running the lockdown. President Trump is against lockdowns and would not order it saying it’s harmful to public health and the economy. We learned that to be true. He also would not mandate to wear masks; it’s our choice if we want to or not. The President encourages us not to let the virus dominate our life or be afraid of it. Look at him, he got it and he recovered as so many others. So what does our governor do? He completely...
To The Eagle: "If you give a man enough rope he will hang himself." Right now the election situation is entertaining me. I don't care who won. I do care if the system works. If Trump is right, and there was fraudulent events during the election: We need to know. A ship that has a hole will sink. Let's investigate. Make sure there aren't any holes. Best case scenario; no holes, ship is floating. Worst case scenario: the hull is designed like a collander and we all need to work together to fix it before we sink. Either way we are all still on a b...
To The Eagle: Democracy--count our votes! When did this country’s elections become corrupt? "Pennsylvania prevented us from watching much of the ballot count. Unthinkable and illegal in this country." "Nevada is turning out to be a cesspool of Fake Votes" and implied shocking revelations in that vein were imminent. "Georgia will be a big presidential win, as it was the night of the Election!" "Wisconsin is looking very good. Needs a little time statutorily. Will happen soon!" “REPORT: DOMINION DELETED 2.7 MILLION TRUMP VOTES NATIONWIDE. DAT...
To The Eagle: I had to laugh at the hypocrisy of our county commissioners last week. Kent and Irene Martin talked about the natural resources of the county. They pointed out the significance of the loss of the positions of influence held by Dean Takko and especially Brian Blake as chair of the Natural Resources Committee. All of the commissioners agreed that our county has suffered a significant loss of influence in Olympia. Yet not a single one of them endorsed or even voiced support for either of those candidates. One even campaigned with...
To The Eagle: It’s unfortunate that some folks think they should shoot themselves in the foot by declaring, “Please cancel my subscription to The Eagle” because they are displeased with not having enough complimentary coverage for their point of view. I’ve noticed many letters to The Eagle lauding the soon-to-depart office holder (for now) in the White House. And, nothing is keeping the fans of conservative issues from submitting their version of the “many accomplishments of our president” (November 12 letter to The Eagle). Just be specific, no...
To The Eagle: Kudos to Mary Fine for her spot-on criticism of The Eagle’s ventures into national news coverage in her “cancel my subscription” letter last week, and while we heartily agree with her analysis, we’d like to sweet-talk her out of canceling. Here’s why: At the advent of Donald Trump, the left-biased mainstream media went totally pro-Democrat/anti-Trump, and the Dems themselves led them on to Marxism and unremitting Trump hatred. Trump aptly dubbed this new edifice “fake news.” The Eagle has excellent local coverage, but for news...
To The Eagle: I take exception to Mary Fine’s letter claiming The Eagle was biased against President Trump. I’ve seen, read and published opinions in many of our nation’s newspapers and testified in their behalf before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee. The Eagle and Mr. Nelson impresses me as fair and objective. It’s a difficult time for small papers; even large ones have been going out of business. Mr. Nelson covers the main stories, but each bit of print costs money. As to Mr. Trump, there are certainly many stories that were not covered, i...
To The Eagle: I hear a lot of negative things about the assessor’s office, but I want to tell about a good experience. I recently filed a couple boundary adjustments that left me with a little less land than I had before. The assessor’s report came in the mail and the assessed value on one small parcel had gone sky high. So I headed for the assessor’s office expecting that I would have to arm wrestle someone. But, instead what I found was the whole staff pitched in and I had a satisfactory answer in one day. Even old Bill pitched right in th...
To The Eagle: Now that the oversized campaign signs have been removed from the roadsides, the only remaining eyesore along the beautiful drive on SR-4 is that absurd statue with all its bits on display. I say absurd because at one point it was wearing a dress. There followed the feathered boa, the hats, the bikini outfit, the toweled beach gear and then the inevitable brief appearance of enhanced genitalia. Juvenile crotch humor. I guess a statue couldn’t be found that was actually raising its middle finger at whoever comes around the curve, b...
To The Eagle: Congratulations, Mr. Tisher. I hope you do well and that we can get behind you and help you do the great work Wahkiakum has come to expect from our leaders. If I can be of assistance, please feel free to give me a call or email. I would like to take this time to thank the residents of Wahkiakum for the opportunity to serve you as county commissioner dist 1. I worked hard and found the job very rewarding. I will never be the same. I will volunteer and stay active in our community. I know that it takes the people of the community...
To The Eagle: This is a quote that seems appropriate to share. “A person that normally cheats to win thinks the only way someone else could win would be by cheating.” What a sad indictment. Unimaginable road blocks were put up to discourage voting. After voting by mail, vilified the very idea of anybody else doing the same. Reduced the number of polling places leading to hours long lines, removing drop boxes, putting a man in charge of the post office whose only qualification was to be a mega donor and personal friend, and threatening cha...
To The Eagle: For the past several years the Wahkiakum County Democratic Party has concentrated on supporting candidates. Now it is time to concentrate on Wahkiakum County and work toward goals that are of particular concern to our residents. Certainly we all want the Columbia River and its tributaries to be full of salmon, for there to be broadband easily affordable and easy to access, for there to be more readily accessible health care, for there to be more affordable housing, for our kids to stay here and thrive, and the list goes on. In...
