    On Saturday, the Wahkiakum School District Parent Teacher Organization got off to a rousing start with what they hope will become an annual event, called a Back to School Touch a Truck. The event allowed youngsters to get a hands-on opportunity with a variety of large vehicles including an ambulance, more than one fire truck, a sheriff's patrol vehicle, a dump truck, and more.     It was a busy three days at the Wahkiakum County Fair, with crowds of people stopping by to visit with friends, enjoy some music and entertainment, games, food, exhibits, and all the animals.     Residents of Butler Street petitioned the city council for a remedy for the condition of their street. The homeowners said that the street, which is a patchwork of cement, asphalt and various repairs is desperately in need of replacement. The council agreed but debated how to proceed.     Wahkiakum County commissioners met as usual on Tuesday. In public comment Kay Walters reported on a successful Wahkiakum County fair. She said that the market sale brought in a total of $26,000 and that 420 fair passes were sold on Thursday alone. The commissioners approved the establishment of an independent information technology department to handle increased internet related work including security, phone systems and the county's emergency communication system.     The Funky Car Show drew a crowd to the River Mile 38 taproom on Saturday. The VWs were a hit, taking first and second place.
