    Wahkiakum County Health and Human Services (WHHS) received positive test result notifications for four additional covid-19 cases in Wahkiakum County residents and also an additional covid related fatality, department Director Chris Bischoff announced this morning (Tuesday). This brings Wahkiakum to a cumulative total of 177 cases, with 11 of those potentially active, and five fatalities.     The Wahkiakum County Fair is back, and this year’s theme is “Hats off to the Fair!” The annual event is scheduled for next Thursday through Saturday, August 19, 20, and 21. “It’s coming quick,” Fair Manager Patty Dursteler said on Tuesday. “We are excited to show off our new additions to the fair.” The improvements including some new roll up doors for the Grange and Lions Club booths, and a brand new ramp and walkway to the T Building.     Wahkiakum County Commissioners on Tuesday authorized the purchase of a spare engine for the ferry Oscar B. Commissioners also authorized the Public Works Department to contract with an engineering firm to survey county bridges, and they approved an update of a sheriff's office contract with the Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) for occasional housing of prisoners in the county jail.   • Fire District 3 acquires heat detection cameras

    Three FLIR E6-XT Infrared Cameras arrived recently for Fire District #3 through a 2020 grant from the Foundation for Rural Services Grant Program. FLIR infrared cameras can identify and locate hot spot fires in a burning building by recognizing extreme high temperatures through a wall or from outside a building. Firefighters say these small, handheld cameras are powerful, cost-effective and easy to use. They contain specific technology for thermal energy detailing.     On Tuesday, the Wahkiakum County PUD Board of Commissioners listened to reports, learned about assistance programs, and appointed a new general manager, Daniel Kay, to replace Dave Tramblie, who announced his plans to retire this year.     Wahkiakum County commissioners on Tuesday hosted a public hearing to gather input on a proposed update of the county Shoreline Master Program (SMP).     Primary results for the Cathlamet mayoral race are in, with David Olson and Robert Stowe moving forward to the November general election, ending incumbent Dale Jacobson's bid for a third term. There was a 39.82 percent turnout for the election, with 174 ballots counted and 25 left to count. A final count will be held on August 17, when the vote will be certified. The board approved an expenditure of $34,182 to purchase a Ford F250 pickup to replace a 10-year old road department vehicle with over 200,000 miles of use.
