    The ferry Oscar B. this week carried some construction equipment which is being used to assist a contractor making improvements to the landing ramp at Westport. Ferry service has been closed as crews work on the Westport ramp and dredge the slough near the landing.     There was one new case of covid-19 reported in Wahkiakum County on Monday, according to Wahkiakum Health and Human Services. This brings the cumulative total to 261, with seven cases considered to be potentially active.     Wahkiakum County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Bigelow this week administered an oath of office to his new deputy, Shannon Eddy. Eddy has spent the last two years in charge of prosecutions in the Adams County District Court in Othello.     The Cathlamet Town Council voted Monday to cease operations at the Community Center in Cathlamet as soon as possible and form a committee to determine future operation. The center is a town facility operated on a contract with Wahkiakum County. The county has used grants and contracts with outside service agencies to fund center operations, but the funding has disappeared, and the center has been operated by volunteers.     The Cathlamet Town Council had no comments from citizens when it held a public hearing on the proposed 2022 budget Monday, but council members had plenty to say. Council Member Robert Stowe objected to a possible appropriation of $5,000 to the Wahkiakum County Historical Society for support of the historical museum.     Washington State Department of Transportation announced Tuesday evening that the slope adjacent to SR 401, also known as Lewis and Clark Trail Highway, between the Astoria-Megler Bridge at and Knappton Road has been stabilized, and the roadway is now open. On Oct. 27, WSDOT maintenance crews closed the 9-mile stretch after heavy rainfall triggered a debris slide on to the roadway.
