Bud L. Holten, respected educator and master storyteller, passed away at age 89 on December 7, 2022. Born in 1933 to a railroad drawbridge tender and a famous local cook, Bud was a product of Raymond, Washington. He played football and enjoyed a successful basketball career at Willapa Valley High School. Gregory Wayne Snodgrass, 65, of Cathlamet, died November 30, 2022 at Hospice in Longview. Greg was born in Carson, to George W. and Thelma (Jones) Snodgrass on April 21, 1957. He grew up on a farm in Moses Lake and went through school there. He worked on the farm growing up. Greg worked in construction running heavy equipment for the WA State DOT and several private companies. He moved to Cathlamet in 1993. I spent Sunday afternoon at the home of the Garlock family including Trenton and Megan along with their children, their oldest child, daughter Auspyn, middle son Tregan, and youngest son, Atlas, and three dogs. The Wahkiakum Mules wrestling team has a new head coach, Ross Lofstrom. Lofstrom, who graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 2008, never wrestled for the Mules. Instead, he played for the basketball team. These days he knows that if wrestling and basketball had different seasons, he would have gladly participated in both. Darcy Rae Tischer passed away peacefully December 3, 2022, in Vancouver Hospice with her family by her side after a long battle with health issues. Darcy was born to Lee and Diane Tischer in Longview on July 26, 1984. She attended school in Cathlamet, where she made many lifetime friends. She worked at the Bank of the Pacific until her health would not allow her to continue. The Cathlamet Town Council on Monday worked on ordinances, settling some and tabling others as they neared the end of their 2023 budget development process. Council members tabled or failed to pass ordinances establishing a subdivision process and adopting portions of the International Property Maintenance Code. Richard Joseph Hoven, 76, of Cathlamet, died peacefully on November 24, 2022 at PeaceHealth Hospital. He was born October 9, 1946 in Mt. Clemens Michigan to the late Floyd and Agatha (Bublitz) Hoven.
