This tough tournament brings in many of the strong coastal schools from both Washington and Oregon, as well as Castle Rock who brings down their varsity squad. “Eight man, double elimination tournaments with this level of competition are difficult to place in,” said Mule Coach Matt Stacey, “making this weeks accomplishment all the more satisfying: Every varsity wrestler who enter...

SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthd...

  • New life for the Duck Inn

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Dec 15, 2011

When Judy Smith was asked by this writer what she would like to say about the fact that she was having to leave her home, the "Duck Inn," in Skamokawa, after having lived there for 25 years, she said, "I don't think there's anymore to say. I think you said it all the last time you wrote about our final weekend here." For Judy, it's tough to say goodbye to all the friends she's made over all the years she's been here and tougher yet to see the place she's called home for all these years, torn apart from stem to stern as "Skamokawa Pete's Duck...

  • Liquor initiative bringing change to county consumers

    Ruby Murray|Dec 15, 2011

While she waits for the outcome of two lawsuits filed to stop the implementation of Initiative 1183, which eliminates state-run liquor stores, Cathlamet Liquor Store owner Janelle Seaberg is considering what to do if the law takes effect on June 1. “The clock is ticking,” Seaberg said. “There are a lot of questions that aren’t answered.” Initiative 1183 closes state-run liquor stores June 1, 2012. It allows smaller contractor-run stores like Seaberg’s to obtain a liquor license and remain in business. This week, a lawsuit filed in Cowlitz Cou...

    Dec 15, 2011

To The Eagle: At a time when we are trying to conserve our resources it bothers me that the beautiful greetings cards I receive go in the trash. I went online and found there are places that recycle and repurpose these cards so I'm asking for your help. If you would like to donate your cards to the St. Judes Ranch for children, remove the fronts of the cards, (no Hallmark, American Greetings or Disney cards, please.) Also there should be no writing on the back of the card. Take them to the Tsuga Gallery in Cathlamet, Thursday through Saturday,...

***Advertisement*** WAHKIAKUM WEST TELEPHONE has been the local telephone company serving the Grays River and Naselle areas since approximately 1927. We have done this notwithstanding the higher costs of serving rural areas in the State of Washington and when few, if any, other telephone companies were interested in serving our communities. We have served and intend to continue...
