    David McNally, Wah. Co. Eagle|Feb 23, 2012

The Wahkiakum Mule boys earned a trip to regionals this past weekend as they grinded the Pacific League’s #1 seeded Raymond Seagulls to a pulp, winning 82-53 Saturday night at Centralia High School. The victory secured the Central League’s dominance over the Pacific League as the Central won eight of nine district matchups and claimed all four regional berths (a feat the Central League girls claimed as well). The Mules came out of the gate slowly against the Seagulls, falling behind the Gulls 7-2 in the opening minutes before erupting on a 16-...

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Feb 23, 2012

PRETTY WET--As this calendar week began, Sunday was a nice dry day, but Monday was quite soggy. From the sounds of it, most of the week is due to be wet, so I hope you've kept the boots and umbrellas handy. We can only hope the forecasters are mistaken and things turn out drier than they think they are going to be, as that would be the kind of weather error we'd like! It sounds like snow levels are dropping as well, so if you're headed to the mountains or have to go over a pass, be sure to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. After the...

State law allows compensation other than money, and at the suggestion of commission Chair Brian O'Connor, the board voted to allow port commissioners five nights of free camping at Skamokawa Vista Park on days when the park isn't full. Commissioners have traditionally waived compensation. A second resolution fixed a $1,500 maximum...

The ordinance entirely repeals the previous ordinance and provides standards for...

  • Locals impressed with presidential candidate

    Feb 23, 2012

To The Eagle: We travelled to Tacoma Monday evening, February 13, to hear and meet with Republican candidate for president Rick Santorum. We feel he would make a good president for all. Santorum also reminded everyone of our county caucus soon coming up and the national importance for Washington State. The Wahkiakum County Republican caucus will be...

  • Bad weather didn't put damper on good deeds

    Feb 23, 2012

To The Eagle: Work doesn't have to feel like work, even in the pouring rain, as long as you are doing something you believe in and so long as you have a good crew working with you. Last Saturday, a crew of 13 volunteers, plus a very efficient machine, dug 56 fence pole holes and set posts at Erickson Park on Columbia Street. These posts will be the first step toward a fence to protect our community garden from the deer that frequent the park, especially in the early morning hours. In particular, the Friends of the Garden want to thank Dandy...
