Wahkiakum County commissioners hope to wrap up work on the county's 2010 budgets today (Thursday). The Wahkiakum Mule boys junior varsity basketball team posted wins in the first two games of the season. Last Thursday, the Mules stumped Columbia Adventist 57-38. Lars Blix led the scoring with 15 points. Cole Claussen had 13, Brandon Fudge 11, Andrew Weiler seven, Eli McElroy six, Bradley Peek and Mitchell Dault three each, and Brook Calvert one. The Wahkiakum Mule boys basketball team overwhelmed opponents in the first two games of the season. On Tuesday, the Mules jumped to a 20-5 first quarter lead over the visiting King's Way Knights and rolled to a 91-36 win. All 12 players who suited up scored points. The Wahkiakum Lady Mules basketball team posted four wins in four games in the first week of the 2009-2010 season. On Tuesday, the Mules steamrolled a young team from King's Way Christian school in Vancouver by a 93-13 score. This past weekend the Mule Wrestling team took a partial squad to Mark Morris to compete in the annual 3 Rivers Invitational Tournament. The Mules were the only “B” school in attendance while most of the schools were 2A or bigger. The Mules claimed three individual medals while placing eighth as a team. Last Friday, representatives from The United States Department of Agriculture met in Cathlamet with about 20 shareholders and customers of the Skamokawa Westside Water (WW) system and informed them of the USDA intent to foreclose on the water system. Wahkiakum County planners will present issues involved in updating the county Critical Areas Ordinance next month in public meetings. State law has mandated an update of the ordinance which is designed to protect wetlands and shorelines from adverse impacts of human activity and development.
