  • Free spaghetti dinner on Saturday

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Dec 8, 2011

BRR!--I am very happy that we are not flooding or buried in snow or being blown to bits by strong winds, but I have to admit, I'm having a tough time warming up after these last few days of below freezing temperatures and heavy fog, which keeps the sun hidden until mid-day. It's great to see the sun when it comes out, but it sort of fools you into thinking it's warm outside but just step out there with no jacket on and boy howdy, you'll be right back in the house grabbing a coat--brr! However, it looks like we'll be seeing it warm up a bit and...

  • Commissioners keep tight rein on county budget

    Rick Nelson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Dec 8, 2011

Wahkiakum County commissioners on Tuesday approved final budgets for 2012, maintaining the conservative tone they established several years ago in the face of declining revenues. Their theme this year has been to get department spending levels back to 2010, or lower. Assessor Bill Coons implored the board to give him funds for hire part-time personnel, but they rejected his pleas. They also rejected a plea for a change in how state funds are spent for the Wahkiakum County Fair, and board Chair Lisa Marsyla couldn't get a second on her motion...

  • PUD heading in wrong direction on connection fees

    Dec 8, 2011

To The Eagle: In the summer of 2001, the then GM. of the PUD, Harry Paul, submitted two requests for water system grants for both Puget Island and WWW water systems. In the fall of 2002, both grants were awarded to the two water systems. The largest grant was to the WWW system, which required a 20 percent match for those residents who wished to connect to the existing water system. After years of effort by both the utility employees, commissioners and the hard work of the local Salmon Creek residents, 50 residents committed to pay $4,000 per re...
