    Wahkiakum High School Senior Ellie Leitz was one of 95,000 students to apply for a $20,000 scholarship in the 2019 CocaCola Scholars Program. She, along with 1,895 students from across the US, has been selected as a semifinalist. In the second phase of competition, Leitz and the other semifinalists will submit essays, transcripts and recommendations to be reviewed by an independent selection committee.     The Wahkiakum Mules boys basketball team started their season with a loss on the road to Winlock, 47-41. “They played really well but came up a little short,” Coach Todd Souvenir said. “We cut the score to two with under a minute when Jake (Leitz) hit a big three.     The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on November 20 in the Middle School Commons. In personnel matters, the board approved a partial leave of absence for Greg Nelson, assistant girls’ basketball coach. The board subsequently hired Kathryn Green to fill the partial leave for the basketball coach.
