    Apr 22, 2010

HALF NICE--I think Saturday took a lot of us by surprise, as we'd heard there was just a chance of a shower. Well, beings it rained a good deal of Friday night and almost all of Saturday, it was not a picnic pleaser by any means. It was great to see the sun return on Sunday though. The rains did not seem to slow down the traffic on SR 4, as clam season and fishing season were in full swing. With tides just right the beaches were full and the boats were thick at the Cathlamet marina and elsewhere.   SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthda...

  • Retirement allows old interest to develop

    Stevan Morgain|Apr 22, 2010

Artist Mitzi Christensen isn’t a Northwest native. Moving to Cathlamet in 2001 from Hawaii, she said she was drawn to the area after a friend recommended she and her husband explore the area. Mitzi grew up in a small town in Northern California and has lived in Monterey, Santa Barbara and Oxnard, California before finally moving to Hawaii, where she and her husband lived for 20 years. Mitzi may be a transplant but her art proves she has the soul of a Wahkiakumite. Her art is all about water, b...

    Rick Nelson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Apr 22, 2010

Wahkiakum County commissioners and District Court Judge Bill Faubion cleared up issues regarding unpaid vouchers Tuesday but are still far from getting them approved. Last week, Commissioners Blair Brady, Dan Cothren and Lisa Marsyla rejected vouchers totalling approximately $1,700 for training and travel expenses for two courtroom security officers. Marsyla said she had several issues with the vouchers. For example, she said, Judge Faubion had once told her that he and Judge Mike Sullivan wanted to maximize the guards hours, which are paid by...

  • Port district should be self sustaining

    Apr 22, 2010

To The Eagle: There's quite a few letters written to The Eagle about the Port District which brings to my attention regarding property tax. I thought property tax was to pay for schools, police, fire departments and roads; so why are we paying tax to the Port District? They seem to be self sustaining enough to take care of its own, especially the marina. Toni Below Cathlamet...

  • Labels should indeed be chosen carefully

    Apr 22, 2010

To The Eagle: Re: Ron Ackermann’s letter published 15 April 2010. It is obvious that Mr. Ackermann is unfamiliar with our local Representative, lame duck Democrat Brian Baird. I suggest he Google “brownshirt Pelosi Reid Baird” before drafting another letter to the Eagle. Regarding Tea Party members calling themselves ‘teabaggers’, I further suggest that Tea Party members do not ridicule and denigrate themselves with such vile sexual slang. If they would, they would probably consider themselves ‘teabaggees’ being ‘teabagged’ by Democrat polit...
