The LaConner Braves put an end to the Wahkiakum Mule football season with a 41-20 decision last Saturday at Mount Vernon. LaConner advances to meet the Raymond Seagulls next Saturday, 3 p.m., also in Mount Vernon. The Mules finish the season with a 8-2 record. Naselle resident Phillip L. Raistakka, 77, died November 3, 2012 in Astoria. The son of Leo and Sylvia (Nasi) Raistakka, he was born in Astoria on March 24, 1935. Phil was valedictorian of the Naselle-Grays River Valley High School class of 1953. He earned his BA degree in education from the University of Puget Sound where he belonged to the Sigma Nu fraternity. At that time, Mark Howie was a sergeant in the Tukwila Police Department, serving the small city of 19,100 people on the south side of Seattle, and Deb drove school buses. Commissioners authorized Emergency Management Coordinator Beau Renfro to spend $810.76 on signs to notify residents of the location and use of sand and sandbags for flood control. Independent candidate Mike Backman has overtaken Democrat Greg Prestegard to lead the election for Wahkiakum County commissioner by 20 votes. Prestegard led 966-946 in initial counting November 6, but after a batch of late arriving votes were counted November 8, Backman had moved ahead by a tally of 1,111 to 1,091. Elections officials will count the last of the late arriving vote by mail ballots and certify the election on November 27.
