    Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce President Sandi Benbrook Rieder told board members Tuesday that volunteers are needed to represent the county on the natural heritage of the area and the Southwest Washington Tourism Board.     It’s that time of year again for the annual Turkey Bingo fundraiser. On November 21 from 6 p.m. onwards, come to the J.A. Wendt Elementary School Multi-purpose room for a night full of fun.     Members of the Lower Columbia Fish Recovery Board and residents of western Wahkiakum County discussed issues and their differing points of view on plans for rehabilitating the Grays River. The fish recovery board is a regional board that reviews and awards state funding for projects designed to restore and rehabilitate salmon and steelhead habitat in Skamania, Clark, Cowlitz and Wahkiakum counties.     The Wahkiakum Mule and Naselle Comet boys cross country teams competed in the Class 1B/2B state meet last Saturday at Sun Willows Golf Course, Pasco. The Mules finished in 11th place with 276 points, and the Comets were 15th with 329 points. Northwest Christian of Lacey finished first, and North Beach tied with Wahkiakum for 11th.     The Wahkiakum Mule football season came to an end with a 50-20 loss to the Mossyrock Vikings last Thursday in Mossyrock. "We didn't play very good team defense," Mule Coach Eric Hansen commented. "We didn't bounce back from the loss to Adna." The Vikings took a 6-0 lead on a 22-yard run in at 3:51 of the first quarter.     There is no longer an excuse to not work out in Wahkiakum County. Dave Gehrman and Julie Fritsch have opened “The Cathlamet Gym” on Main Street and it is sure to please athletes and non athletes of all ages. Always the entrepreneur, Gehrman made his own weight room in his parent’s basement as a kid. “I made all my own weights out of concrete and pipe,” he said.     The Wahkiakum Lady Mule volleyball team placed fourth in the Southwest Washington Class B volleyball tournament last week and will play in the state meet this week in Yakima. The Mules won a coin toss to claim the Central League's second place berth in the district tournament.     Bob Aldrich, Surface Water Manager for Snohomish County, will make a presentation on "Flood Fencing Methods for Landowners" on November 20 at the Wahkiakum Stakeholders Meeting in the River Street Room in Cathlamet from 10 a.m. till noon.     Wahkiakum County commissioners and other officials worked this week to finish the proposed 2009 budget for publication next Monday. The officials started a Tuesday meeting with the budget $194,000 out of balance and went through a process to even up revenues and expenditures.
