The Wahkiakum Mule volleyball team dropped a 3-1 match to the Adna Pirates Tuesday night in a battle for second place in league standings. The Mules rolled through the first game to win 25-18, but the Pirates warmed up and were able to handle the Mule attack after that, winning the next three games 25-19, 25-22, and 25-23. The short-handed Wahkiakum Mules ground out a 21-13 non-league victory over the combined Morton/White Pass (M/WP) football team in the 2009 homecoming game last Friday. A 34-year-old Cowlitz County man underwent surgery after being shot with a .22 bullet early Saturday morning in Skamokawa. The victim, a Fall Creek Road resident, refused further treatment and left the hospital after giving a statement to law enforcement officers. Wahkiakum County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Cathlamet man, Jack Sebade, age 73, on a charge of assault in the first degree.
