    Last week, Puget Island resident Olaf Thomason donated a boat commissioned in 1902 by the first permanent settler on Puget Island to the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria. "We're very pleased to have the Duke," Jeff Smith, the museum's curator said. "We've had our eye on it for many years. We will preserve and protect it in accordance with Thomason's desires."     The Wahkiakum Mules edged the visiting Winlock Cardinals 18-13 in the Mules' homecoming football game on Friday. Winlock took the lead at 11:49 of the second quarter when Dawson Hall shot a gap in the Mule line, snatched the ball from Mule quarterback Zach Brown and raced 60 yards for a touchdown.     Wahkiakum County may cease providing a health insurance program for Port District 1. At their meeting Tuesday, Commissioners Dan Cothren, Blair Brady and Mike Backman agreed to wait a month before shedding Port 1 from the county's health insurance program. In other business Tuesday, the board agreed to withdraw an Ingalls Road construction project from a state funding program and handled other business.     Commissioners of Port District 1 approved three resolutions: the 2015 budget in the amount of $1,022,906, new rate increases and a 1 percent increase on the Port District’s tax levy, which will allow them to collect $63,827.95 divided amongst the tax payers in the district.     A Puget Island man's dog was killed while he was taking it for a walk last Friday. Roy Simpson had stopped to talk to a neighbor while walking his dog along West Sunny Sands Road near Svensen Park. While they were visiting, Simpson said, the neighbor's dog suddenly came out of the garage and attacked his Yorkshire Terrier, which was on a leash. He was the son of Army Captain Harry and Ellen Marie (Futtrup) Lynch. He served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II.
