    Local farmers, gardeners and food producers are invited to attend the first meeting of the fall with the Wahkiakum Food and Farm Network, Monday, October 14, at 7 p.m., in the River Street Meeting Room in Cathlamet.     A limited sturgeon retention fishery will be allowed. White sturgeon from 44 inches minimum to 50 inches maximum fork length may be retained on Saturday, Oct. 12 only in the Mainstem Columbia River from the Wauna powerlines upstream to Bonneville Dam, and the Cowlitz River.   • Evaluating mason bees cocoons

    On October 12 at 10:00 a.m., Billie Bevers, Washington State University Master Gardener, will present a workshop on how to evaluate mason bees cocoons for disease. During the spring and summer other bees, diseases and parasites can invade mason bee nests.     The Wahkiakum Mules pulled away in the second half to claim a 34-14 victory over the Mossyrock Vikings last Friday. The Vikings scored first on a 30-yard run in the first quarter and took an 8-0 lead. The Mules responded with a second quarter touchdown in the second quarter.     Wahkiakum High School cross country runners traveled to Ilwaco last Thursday to compete against six other teams in the JW Black Lake XC Race. Daniel Quintana of Ilwaco led all 45 runners in the 5,000 meter boys’ run, finishing in 18:30.5. For the Mules, Jamil Dimaano took 23rd place with a time of 23:35.5.     The Wahkiakum County Noxious Weed Control Board will hold a special meeting commencing at 6 p.m. on Friday to discuss 2020 programs and budget. The Wahkiakum County Board of Commissioners has been working to reconstitute the board, which is charged with overseeing eradication and control of noxious or invasive weeds.
