  • Pumpkins to be chucked this Friday

    Two businesses will compete with the Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce in this Friday's Punkin Chunkin' challenge as part of the Oktoberfest celebrations. Terry Barnes Grambo of Financial Network and her husband Roger, and Rob and Diane Stockhouse of Stockhouse's Farm will both build pumpkin chuckers to challenge the Chamber's Funnelator. Prior to the challenge, the Slow Moving Parade made up of farm vehicles will travel through Cathlamet to the market.   • Columbia River Country Days event goes to the fair

    As part of the WSU Extension Columbia River Country Days celebration this weekend there will be an event at the Wahkiakum County Fairgrounds in Skamokawa on Saturday. This event will include a Fair used book sale, 4-H members meeting the public and talking about their 4-H projects, other area people with their animals, the 4-H After School Tech Club showing their videos, an information table with brochures and flyers from different county groups and a spring bulb sale by the Fair Foundation.   • Chocolate Extravaganza enters its 12th year

    The Charlotte House Advisory Board is sponsoring the 12th annual Chocolate Extravaganza this Friday at the Hotel Cathlamet. The event runs from 4 - 6:30 p.m. and features local bakers competing for the title of "Most Decadent Dessert." Last year's winner was Susan McClain Kuhn with her Almond Roca. Amongst this years entries include Peanut Butter Cups, Chocolate Snickers Pie, Sweet and Salty Cake, and Malted Fudge Brownies. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children and seniors.
