Effective 12:01 a.m., Friday, September 23, 2016, officials from Wahkiakum County will allow outdoor burning in accordance with the Wahkiakum Outdoor Burning Ordinance 122-94. By Rick Nelson Commissioners of Port District 2 on Tuesday agreed to purchase an espresso stand and construct a new building housing the port office and a laundromat at Skamokawa Vista Park. Sisters Rachel Katyryniuk and Nicole Burkhalter set up a mobile espresso stand in the park last year, and they've offered to sell it to the port district this year. The Wahkiakum Mule running attack overwhelmed visiting South Bend for a 34-14 non-league football victory last Friday. The Mules ran for 361 yards on the ground while keeping the visitors in check with 197 of their own. Hank Ferguson, a senior from Wahkiakum High School, was nominated by a community member and selected last week by Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association staff as one of the Athletes of the Week for achievements in football on September 9.
