    September 2, 2014 saw the dedication of a beautiful Julia Child yellow rose planted in the Wahkiakum Community Garden in Erickson Park in memory of the late Pat Reese, a longtime member of the local Woman's Club, an avid gardener, and a well-known active member of our community. Here a plant spike is placed in her honor by her husband, Larry Reese, and former garden coordinator Linda Hartung.     On September 20, 2014, Skamokawa native Marjorie (Bunn) and Jerry Dunne will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple began their lives together in Portland, OR, where Marjorie began a career with Fred Meyer Corp. and Jerry with Hercules Inc. They each retired after more than 30 years.   • Fire fighting float plane on the Columbia

    A float equipped Air Tractor scooped up water on Saturday off Ohrbergs Beach, Puget Island, to dump on a wildfire along the Pacific/Lewis County Line. According to the Air Tractor website, the plane can carry both retardant and water. It can scoop 800 gallons of water in 12-15 seconds and be off the water and on its way again to the front lines in as few as 20-30 seconds.     The Napavine Tigers rolled over the Wahkiakum Mules for a 48-0 Central League football game last Friday. The Tigers, second ranked in the Associated Press poll, got things going early by pressuring Mule quarterback Gunnar Blix and returing an intercepted pass for a touchdown with less than 90 seconds gone in the game.     Last week, the Mules volleyball team opened their season with a non-league win at home, then traveled to a tournament in Mossyrock and swept six teams in a morning round robin.
