    Lewis and Clark National Historical Park hosts the 7th annual South Slough Scramble on Sunday, September 25 at 9:00 a.m. All 5k/10k participants will get a finisher’s medal. There will also be a safety and health fair along with prize drawings. The start/finish line and the health fair will be located at the park’s Netul Landing, approximately 1½ miles south of Fort Clatsop.     If you want strawberries next spring, now is the time to plant. On September 14 at 6 p.m., Master Gardner Billie Bevers will discuss how to successfully grow strawberries.     A new kind of “bank” NOAA Fisheries has approved in southwest Washington will use a novel approach to fund restoration and long-term protection of more than 300 acres of prime wetland and river habitat along the Coweeman River east of Kelso, promoting recovery of threatened salmon and steelhead.     The Wahkiakum Mules opened the 2016 season with a 48-6 win over the visiting Naselle Comets last Friday in the battle for the KM Trophy. The Mules stayed on the ground to control the game.     The Wahkiakum Mules volleyball team got off to a good start with a win against a 2A school, R.A. Long, on Tuesday. The Mules won in five sets, 25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 23-25, and 17-15.
