The 5th Annual Buzzard’s Breath Chili Cook-Off brought visitors from all over to enjoy the festivities. In the September 2 meeting of the Wahkiakum PUD, board members discussed the preliminary budget and future projects. PUD employees have been working with the engineering firm of Gray and Osborne on replacing the water main and installing new electrical facilities on SR 409. Successful investigation of a Puget Island burglary led to the arrest of four persons last weekend. Two Cathlamet men were charged in connection with burglary, and two Longview residents were charged with possession of stolen property and illegal possession of the drugs. Anglers may now catch and retain adult chinook salmon on the Elochoman and Toutle rivers. A portion of the lower Columbia River will also open to chinook fishing. On the Elochoman River, anglers may retain up to two adult chinook as part of their daily salmon catch limit, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced. Erickson Park in Cathlamet is getting a facelift. Jerry DeBriae Logging has contracted with the town to remove excess brush, fallen trees and branches and invasive plants that have overgrown in the area over several years.
