A Rosburg woman sustained neck injuries in a one-car traffic accident Monday morning. Gerri J. Cowell, 26, was driving eastbound on Parpala Road, Naselle, when her 2008 Ford Focus left the roadway. According to a report from the investigating Washington State Patrol, Cowell overcorrected, and the vehicle rolled, coming to rest on its top. Cowell, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained neck injuries and was airlifted to Emanuel Hospital, Portland, for treatment. She will be charged with negligent driving....
At the August 20 meeting of the Wahkiakum School Board, members discussed plans and contracts. Transportation Supervisor Calvin Grasseth presented the board with an estimate regarding a school bus purchase. Board member Willie Johnson moved and Board member Tony Boyce seconded the motion to allow the district to purchase a new school bus. A section of copper wire was reported stolen from power lines on SR4, the Wahkiakum PUD and Wahkiakum Sheriff's office said Friday. The downed wires were noticed by a PUD employee on his way to work. There were five spans of wire missing, said PUD Manager Dave Tramblie. “As it turns out, there was one span that hadn’t gotten picked up, that got left, so they only got four spans of number two copper,” Tramblie said. Naselle resident Steven J. Dobbins, 46, died last Friday night as result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident near Rosburg. According to a report from the Washington State Patrol, Dobbins was driving a 2007 Ford pickup southbound on the Altoona-Pillar Rock Road around 11 p.m. The vehicle left the roadway near milepost 9.7, went up an embankment and then rolled on to the passenger side. Wahkiakum County health workers may begin administering influenza vaccinations in September, Health and Human Services Administrator Judy Bright announced Tuesday.The vaccinations would start with school children and people in at-risk groups who haven’t had previous vaccinations. Bright reported that starting this year, health officials recommend that all children should be vaccinated. Officials have been vaccinating children age six months through four years, and this year, officials recommend all children age 5-18 years be vaccinated. The d...

Members of Diking District 4 met August 20 to discuss the group’s future and possible elections. Washington state law calls for an election of diking district board members every six years. Wahkiakum County commissioners took steps toward adopting an amended county comprehensive plan Tuesday. The board voted to split a detailed section on economic development from the plan and use it for an updated county economic plan. They’ll insert a summary of the section supplied by David Goodroe, executive director of the Lower Columbia Economic Development Council, for the economic development segment of the comprehensive plan.
