  • Woman brings brick of explosive to sheriff

    Diana Zimmerman|Aug 6, 2015

Two weeks ago a truck from the Washington State Patrol’s bomb squad sat in front of the Wahkiakum County Courthouse. It wasn’t until this weekend that the rumors exploded, and Sheriff Mark Howie found he had a little explaining and a lot of reassuring to do. On July 20, a resident from another county in Washington found a brick of plastic explosives in a storage area on her property. Believing it may have a connection with an ongoing case in Wahkiakum County, the individual brought it to How...

  • Former mayor speaks to street vacation idea

    Aug 6, 2015

To The Eagle: Your coverage of the Town Council’s Beal Street debate was informative. However, my public comment on the issue – a warning about safety and traffic flows near the marina – wasn’t fully reflected in your story. With a large parcel of Town property (the former sewage lagoons) up for redevelopment, the Council should be thinking not only about today’s traffic patterns and usage, but about how Cathlamet’s waterfront might function 10, 20 or 30 years in the future. That isn’t happening. Indeed, the Town has got two related issue...

To The Eagle: I am a local landowner who has lived, worked and paid taxes in Wahkiakum County for most of my life. Cascade Hardwoods is wanting to purchase about 14.4 acres of alder from me. It was proposed to be logged by Olsen Logging and probably hauled by DeBriae. The logging was proposed to be done this summer and to be completed in about a two week period. • Skamokawa didn't make the list of small towns

    Kay Chamberlain|Aug 6, 2015

MISERABLE--With temperatures in the triple digits around the area last week, it was just way too hot for some of us! It was great to see some clouds show up beginning on Sunday and they say we may have some cooler temperatures due this whole week, so that's fine by me. Can you believe that officers in Eugene, OR responded to three cases of children being left in cars within a one hour window, and it was at a time when it was reading over 100 degrees outside, which would climb to about 120 in 15 minutes in a car? Please take a look around the...
