On the other hand, for customers checking for updates on package arrivals, the alert would not be coming. They were just going to have to check their mail and find...

  • Writer responds to criticism

    Jul 27, 2023

To The Eagle: It is my opinion that contemporary radical fundamentalist Christianity is evolving into a clear and present danger to our secular State and its democratic principles. Those who think Socialism will be the undoing of this country are missing a big “ism” that slips in beneath their radar because it’s wrapped in religion. Its name is Christian Dominion ideology, and it has the power to eviscerate our democracy. Dominionism is a central tenet of authoritarian Christian Nationalism, that the Christian god has tasked its zealots with ta...

    Kay Chamberlain|Jul 27, 2023

END OF ANOTHER MONTH--We’ll wrap up July and begin August on Monday and I’m still not done with my pre-Springtime chores; yikes! Now that it's hotter, the summer chores haven’t been done either as it’s too hot for me to work outside, so I feel for all of you who have to do that. The dampness we got on Monday morning was actually quite refreshing, but the rest of the week is going to be dry and toasty, so here’s hoping you’ve been slathering on the sunscreen and keeping yourself hydrated. • Downriver Dispatches

    Karen Bertroch|Jul 27, 2023

It's almost August. How did that happen? It means the Fair, the Loggers Reunion and Labor Day weekend are all just around the bend. The older I get, the faster the days go by. There is a song that talks about now that we're older, how many more times will we see the cherry blossoms in bloom? We have time left and no real idea of how long that will be, but our time needs to be used so that we spend it with family, babies, young ones in pre-school, friends and elders, and yes, cherry trees. May...

Multiple agencies and organizations, from local and state police to the state Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Parks and Recreation Department, responded to Sunday morning’s sighting of the big cat on the iconic Haystack Rock. The beach was closed to protect people and let i...

Now the pair, who have spent their lifetimes practicing one form of martial arts or another, are offering Brazilian jiu-jitsu, tae kwon do/kickboxing, and fitness classes at a gym they converted from a barn on Puget Island.
