    Diana Zimmerman|Jul 25, 2019

It was rockin' and reelin' in Cathlamet this weekend when a big crowd showed up to celebrate the 38th annual Bald Eagle Days, enjoy a parade, and shop at scores of vendor's tables. The hometown event is a social one, and friends, former classmates, and families greeted each other happily on what turned out to be a warm, sunny Saturday. "Everything went so great," Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce Director Megan Elliott said on Tuesday. "I've been hearing such wonderful feedback from everyone. Most...

  • County board, residents frustrated over sand

    Rick Nelson|Jul 25, 2019

Wahkiakum County commissioners and residents of Cape Horn shared frustrations Tuesday over lack of information about US Army Corps of Engineer beach nourishment plans. Commissioners also received an evaluation of costs of maintaining a vacant house on county property, agreeing to vote on its future at their August 6 meeting, and going over other varied business. County officials and staff succeeded this year in an effort to set up a 10-year program to enable the Corps to deposit dredged sand on eroding beaches on Cape Horn and Puget Island,...

  • Bald Eagle Days was one of the best

    Jul 25, 2019

To The Eagle: On behalf of the Wahkiakum County Chamber of Commerce, I want to sincerely express our humbled appreciation to everyone involved in making this Bald Eagle Days weekend such an amazing experience! The Chamber team is so grateful for the opportunity to organize the parade and festival, but we could not have done this without the hard work of our community volunteers, sponsor donations, vendors, and, most importantly, everyone who attended the events throughout the weekend. Thank you to all the parade participants who continue to...

  • Democrats urged to watch the debates

    Jul 25, 2019

To The Eagle: It was fun watching the debates last month in a group. We were able to talk about the candidates during the breaks. Some things we all liked some we all didn't. Not much was said directly by the candidates about regaining local control of local resources which is one of our main concerns. So, let's do it again but in smaller groups and possibly in more locations. Consider hosting a debate-watch house-party for your neighbors and friends! The next presidential primary Democratic Party debates are coming Tuesday and Wednesday, July...

It was fun to participate in as well as watch the parade and the fireworks show is always spectacular. This is a wonderful community and PYC members love cruising to Cathlamet. The Chamber of Commerce put on a great event for visitors and locals alike. The parade was fun and well...

    Jul 25, 2019

To The Eagle: Show #3 in the Silver Buckle Gaming Series, at the Wahkiakum County fairgrounds was canceled. The show was to have taken place on July 13. The arena was accidently flooded, so the show had to be canceled. The footing was so bad that we didn't want to take the chance on any horses or riders getting injured. August 3 has been set as the make up date for show #3. The gates will again open at 8 a.m. for registration and warm up. The show will start at 10 a.m. We will again start with the Texas Barrels jackpot. Show #4 in the series...
