GORGEOUS--The weekend was great after rain fell last week; not a welcome sight to those who had hay down, but luckily the sun returned and dried the hay, so tractors were tedding and got the hay in wind-rows and then the pounding of the balers and bale wagons made for some long, long days, but some great hay! It's a bit drippy this Tuesday, and I hope they're over and done with by this weekend as we've got a busy time ahead! THIS FRIDAY--One of our local artists, Mike Rees, will have several of his color photographs on display at the new Tsuga...

Citizens, state and local officials and environmental habitat groups think they may have a solution to the continuing flooding and erosion problems along Kandoll Road and Seal Slough. Engineers from Cardno Entrix, a consultant working for the Columbia Land Trust, said a viable solution seems to be to create a new slough across the old Kandoll Farm to channel the water that surfaces on the farm into the Grays River to the south and away from Seal Slough to the north. The concept drew nods of approval from several regulatory agencies, and the...

A homeowners' association is asking Wahkiakum County officials to join them in pressuring a developer into addressing an erosion issue along SR 4 near Nassa Point. Patrick Anderson and Van Wilkinson of the Maple Ridge Homeowners Association said that group is having other problems with developer Lynn Barnett, and they feel the county could have some liability in the problem. The Maple Ridge access road is just west of the Nassa Point Motel. Barnett has graded a lot to the west of the road, and there was erosion of mud and rocks that went on...

Assessor Bill Coons and the Wahkiakum County Board of Commissioners are still far apart on paying for extra help for Coon's office. They plan to consult with Prosecuting Attorney Dan Bigelow about the interpretation of statutes and how they might settle their dispute. On June 28, Coons reported his clerk has accumulated 140 hours of vacation time and he asked the board to authorize a transfer from the Professional Services budget line to the Extra Help line. The board refused, saying that wasn't what the appropriation was meant for and because...
To The Eagle: Just wanted to express my thanks to all my clients throughout the years, I will miss everyone. I will be moving at the end of the month. Columbia Land Trust has succeeded in running me out of home and business. My health can not take the constant terror they put me through. This is how they get what they call “willing sellers.” I am not willing but my health and sanity must prevail. Those of you who assume they gave me big bucks are mistaken; I do not even have enough to buy a new home and the financial losses to me are exo...
To The Eagle: Consider this list of words that accurately describe our nation's bank operated money-created -as-debt system--fraud, hoax, swindle, deception, theft, legalized ongoing criminal enterprise, unstable, racket, scam, robbery and looting. These adjectives, shameful, corrupt, unethical, and immoral are also accurate. Are we supposed to be happy with a system like this? This system is forever unworkable. The longer we use this system, the worse things will get because it always creates an ever increasing unpayable debt. It is...
To The Eagle: I've been reading in The Eagle about the big 30 Year Anniversary Party for the Skamokawa Vista Park to be held the end of this month. There is one person I haven't heard mentioned in any of the articles, and had it not been for him, the park certainly wouldn't be as successful as it is today. The person I am talking about is Steve McClain. It was his many years of hard work, love, devotion, blood, sweat, and tears, that built that park and kept it going until he was dismissed. When the powers that be stand up to give their...

The Fairgrounds was full of activity last week-end. Dan Wakefield brought his Boy Scout Troop from Puyallup to camp at the Fairgrounds Park. The group of seven scouts and three adults volunteered to give us some help with the projects we are doing as we get ready for our Fair. The scouts painted, denailed boards, used the weed eater, moved lumber and helped to build some animal pens in the new barn. The scout troop likes using recycled materials, they were very happy with the materials we had to build the pens with. Some of the pens we set up...
What an absolutely wonderful week we had with our kids, grandkids and dogs last week. They must have brought the sun from California and taken it back with them when they left. At least it’s not cold. For the first time our grandkids didn’t want to go home. They all learned how to drive a stick shift car while they were here, learned how to shoot a .22, how to build a brick fire pit, went swimming in the river, picked salmon berries and they all got along with each other. That was quite an accomplishment in my book of raising kids. News fro...
