Marjorie Fay Burns passed away at her home on Puget Island on Sunday, July 7. She was born on April 11, 1928 in Polson, Montana, to George and Elizabeth Fryberger. Marge married Robert Burns in 1950. They moved to Portland in 1957 and raised their family there. They retired on Puget Island in the early eighties. Marge loved spending time with her family and she and Bob enjoyed many lovely trips together. She was passionate about tennis and music. Jay Inslee has reappointed the chair of the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission to a six-year term and has appointed the executive director of the Purse Seine Vessel Owners Association to a vacant position. The Clatsop Weavers and Spinners Guild return to Redmen Hall in July for an exhibit titled "It's So Nice to Have a Loom Around the House." It will feature the practical side of weaving and spinning, showing handspun and woven articles of use around the house. Wahkiakum PUD employee Lia Sealund presented her findings of a recent conservation program at Wahkiakum School District to the PUD commissioners during their July 2 meeting. The school district, in partnership with the PUD and the Bonneville Power Administration, completed phase one of a two-part project to increase energy efficiency to all three buildings as well as the bus garage. Wahkiakum County officials got some good financial news Tuesday. Treasurer Tammy Peterson reported that the Department of Natural Resources has estimated the county will receive an extra $763,000 this year in revenue from the harvest of timber off state managed county trust timberland. The timber market has gone up significantly in the past year, she said; log buyers are paying much more for logs. Representatives of regional public housing agencies gave support Tuesday to Wahkiakum County's proposed public housing project. The county Department of Health and Human Services (H&HS) and its Housing Advisory Committee have proposed construction of a mix of houses and apartments on a land parcel off Jacobson Road in Cathlamet.
