The Wahkiakum County Fair Board in collaboration with the Skamokawa Grange will be celebrating the County Fair’s 100th birthday with a 1908 vaudeville show at 7:30 p.m. on June 20 and 21, and a matinee at 2 p.m. on June 22. One hundred Washington state students who have multiple sclerosis or whose parents have the disease, including a 2008 Wahkiakum High School graduate, have been awarded scholarships from the National MS Society, the Greater Washington Chapter has announced. Last week, Horizons group members Wayne and Sarah Flohr and Bill Coons returned from a three day conference in Bloomington, Minn., concentrating on the economic situations of residents of small rural towns. Horizons is a group that is a part of the Northwest Area Foundation (NAF). Should Wahkiakum County accept state funding to make a part-time employee full-time? That's the question county officials have been debating the past two weeks. Prosecuting Attorney Dan Bigelow reported that the state is offering fulltime salary and benefits for the position of the crime victim advocate in his office. At the June meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, Jerry Pedersen of the Kiwanis club told the board about the upcoming golf tournament July 12 at the Skyline Golf Course in Cathlamet.
