  • Red Cross looking for Wahkiakum volunteers

    An Open House Volunteer Orientation for those wishing to volunteer for the Red Cross will be held on June 17 at 7 p.m. The orientation will introduce potential volunteers to the different departments of the Red Cross and the roles they play in the community. Wahkiakum County specifically needs Disaster Action Teams that can respond to and assess an emergency situation in the county and communicate to the Red Cross the immediate needs of that situation.   • Mummu contest deadline extended

    The Finnish-American Folk Festival Committee is looking for people of all ages to share their “Mummu” or grandma stories during the Finnish-American Folk Festival from July 23-25 and will continue to accept them until June 20. The Committee is particularly interested in more “local” stories from Pacific, Wahkiakum and Clatsop Counties. To make entries even more inclusive, grandmas ( Mummus) can submit their own stories or participants may enter a story about a woman who was like a grandma to them.   • Grange marks Dairy Month

    The Grays River Grange will host a celebration of Dairy Month on June 22. The program will begin with a Locavore potluck dinner at 6 p.m. followed at 7 p.m. by a short program featuring the 2010 Lewis-Pacific County Sate Dairy Ambassador Andrea Smaciarz and Keely McGuire, the 2009 Wahkiakum County Fair Queen.   • Farm Market vouchers available for seniors

    There will be one distribution day for Wahkiakum County eligible seniors to obtain vouchers to use at participating farmers’ markets. The vouchers will be distributed at the Rosburg Community Hall on June 17 from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and also at the Cathlamet Congregational Church (on 3rd and Maple) from 10 a.m.-noon. Seniors are encouraged to come and get Senior Farmers’ Market Vouchers and to participate in the Senior Community Lunch which will be served at noon at both the Cathlamet site as well as Rosburg.
