With three games in the last week, the Lady Mules really only ran into one serious challenger on Saturday, when they hosted a 1A team from the Seattle area, Kings High School. The Lady Mules managed to eke out a win that day too, to bring their overall record to 10-1. On Thursday, the Lady Mules beat Morton/White Pass 92-13. "MWP got off to a hot start turning offense into defense," Coach Rob Garrett said. "Paige (Mace) went over 1,000 career points which was a great milestone for her and Emmie...
Photos by Todd Wilson The Wahkiakum Mules boys basketball team traveled to Morton/White Pass Friday for their only game last week and lost to a tough Timberwolves team, 85-71. The Mules are 4-3 overall. "I knew coming in that MWP plays hard," Coach Todd Souvenir said. "They are very athletic. They basically put five guards on the court at all times. They play fast and they play physical. On both ends of the floor, they kind of took it to us. We were kind of playing on our heels and could never r...
Amaya Jones might have a minor case of senioritis, but with graduation coming up next week, she won't have to suffer much longer. "I just want to be done with high school," she said. "I want to skip forward to the part where I walk across the stage and not have to do school work." She has been enjoying her directed studies class these last few weeks. It's extra time to get caught up on old homework and focus on what she really wants. Her favorite teacher is Marc Niemeyer. "He always pushes me to...
Ivan Goldinov was friendly, but perhaps a little shy about talking to a reporter. He was happy to share that Mr. Hurley and Mr. Rooklidge were his favorite teachers, but much of that had to do with what he was able to do in their classrooms, which was working with his hands. Ivan took Ag mechanics with Kyle Hurley, learning to weld and working on small projects. When pressed, Ivan smiled and admitted he might not be too bad at welding. He also really enjoyed environmental science with Jeff...
Tucker Thomas is from Wahkiakum and has attended school at Wahkiakum School District since he was in kindergarten. "I've grown really close to a lot of my classmates," he said. "At a big school I doubt that really happens with your entire class." He really appreciates a few of his teachers, but Don Cox is his "absolute favorite." "I like the way he teaches," Tucker said. "It's not like, 'Oh, you have to learn this to take a test on it,' it's more like, 'This is cool; I want you to learn it, I...
