On May 30 at 6 p.m., Ruth Wendt, associated with the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens will discuss how to grow lilacs. She will cover everything from buying lilacs to proper planting, care, and fertilizers to use. Five Wahkiakum Mule runners qualified for the state meet with good performances last Friday at the district meet at W.F. West High School in Centralia. The Wahkiakum High School Mules golf team competed at the 2017 District Golf Championship and State Qualifier at Three Rivers Golf Course on May 17 and 18. Thirty-two players from eight High Schools competed on day one, vying for one of the 18 spots available to play on day two. 8 WHS graduate Samantha Boyce was recently named Female Athlete of the Year at Lower Columbia College. Boyce, who excelled in Mule sports, competed for the Red Devil basketball and softball teams. Boyce has had offers to play softball at several colleges but is still weighing her options.
