  • Dog races to be held this weekend

    The hounds will be running this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, May 25 and 26, at Misty Rivers Plantation, 117 Cross Dike Road on Puget Island. And it will be more than just hounds. The AKC event, sponsored by the Willamette Valley Basenji Club, will consist of Coursing Aptitude Trials (CATs) open to all breeds and mixed breeds. In regular CATs, the dogs chase an artificial bunny on a random course of around 1000 yards. There will also be FAST CATs, which is a timed 100 yard dash. Entry details...

  • Two lanes for PI Bridge

    In recognition of Memorial Day, both lanes of the SR 409 Puget Island Bridge will re-open to traffic beginning at noon May 24 through May 27, the Washington State Department of Transportation announced Wednesday. Beginning May 28, crews will resume the around-the-clock, single lane closure of the bridge for bridge painting work. At this time, there are no full closures of the bridge scheduled, the announcement said. Later this year, crews may need to schedule overnight, full closures of the bridge for deck paving work.
