    The Wahkiakum Mule golf team headed to the state tournament this week, with two golfers advancing to the championship round on Wednesday. After 18 holes at Oak Brook Country Club on Tuesday, May 21, only two of six Mules made the cut of the top 20 of 40 state qualifiers. Senior Brysen Coleman, the District 4 runner-up, shot 85 tying for ninth place and junior Austin Good shot 89 tying for 16th. The two players will battle for team points on the final day.     Local high school track and field athletes fared well at the district championships last Thursday at Raymond and advanced to the state meet this Friday and Saturday at Eastern Washington University, Cheney. Naselle Comet Chandler Chapman won the high jump at 5'0"; he was the only local champion. He finished sixth in the triple jump and will compete in that event at state.     Veryl Donald Chamberlain, 93, longtime resident of Grays River, died May 15, 2013 in Benton City. He was born September 16, 1919 to Fred and Effie (Clark) Chamberlain in Washougal. After his dad became ill, they moved back to Washougal where Veryl attended school and graduated from Washougal High School in 1938.     Geraldine “Jeri” Olsen, 82, of Longview, passed away on May 16 at Hospice Care Center. Jeri was born March 5, 1931 in Cathlamet to Joseph and Julian (Longtain) Souvenir. She was raised in Cathlamet, graduating from Wahkiakum High School in 1948. In 1949 she married Carl Olsen and they moved to Longview in 1951. Carl preceded her in death in 1998. They loved to travel and wintered in Arizona for 10 years after retirement. Together they enjoyed dancing and socializing. Jeri also enjoyed flowers, gardening, needlepoint and quilting.     With no pressing business to act on, Wahkiakum PUD commissioners met briefly Tuesday morning to sign vouchers and to hear reports. PUD Attorney Tim Hanigan told the commissioners that he had been present on Friday at the opening of bids for a new bucket truck. Four bids were submitted; they ranged in price from $99,429 to $109,831.     The Cathlamet Town Council filled a vacant council position and acted on other business when it met Monday evening. Council Member Steven McNicholas had written a letter of resignation after the council's April meeting which had a report of a $900 penalty for a late insurance payment. I truly feel it should be in a building that is already built in town and I think the brick building at 83 Main Street would make a spectacular place for a brewery.
