GETTING BETTER--Our weekend saw us getting pretty soaked from time to time but during the afternoon hours, we had some pretty decent dry spells, so it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. The same goes for the work week as we had off and on showers as it began, but we also had some dry spells, so it's our usual Spring time weather, in which we find the shower/sun combo making our lawns grow like crazy so the person in charge of mowing your lawn is definitely keeping busy. By the time you read this, we're supposed to be a little...

Ray Prestegard is a busy man. He’s devoted most of his life to music, and he’s found more than one way to interact with it. Along with performing, he decided to give radio broadcasting a try at KMUN, Coast Community Radio out of Astoria. “I’m an entertainer and a musician, so I’ve always broadcasted,” Prestegard said. “I listened to that old radio station for 20 to 30 years and I just decided to bite the bullet. I wanted to do it for decades.” The Elochoman Valley resident found himself doing a...

A group of Elochoman Valley residents are in the infant stages of developing a long range plan to restore fisheries in the Elochoman River. They'll host a meeting open to anyone interested in the river, according to spokesperson Dianne Froode. The meeting will be May 31, 10 a.m., at the Elochoman Slough Marina. The group feels that one of the key elements for positive results is habitat restoration. Even though the river offers a great deal of pristine habitat, it still remains an unsustainable watershed, the group said. The group will work...
Several community members showed up to support the high school golf team at last Thursday’s Wahkiakum School District Board of Director’s meeting after hearing that the school sponsored sport was up for review. This year the Mules baseball team would have had to cancel their season if the school had been unable to get league permission to allow eighth grade boys to turn out for the team. With enrollment on the decline and fewer students showing interest in athletics, the school board has to con...
Members of the Cathlamet Town Council discussed biosolids, salmon rearing issues, and awarded a Propane supply bid and acted on other issues at their monthly meeting on Monday. He pushed Ellie out of the way, then was hit, thrown high in the air, did about three cart wheels and landed in a bloody mess on his face.
