Under the guidance of Head Coach Tim Riles, Olsen will join the NW Athletic Association of Community Colleges (...
GORGEOUS--I hope all of you have been slathering on the sunscreen as we've really had a wonderful stretch of sunshine lately! Having this dry, warm weather means we often stay in the sun a little too long, so whether you are working or playing in it, I hope you're keeping safe, and taking precautions for yourself and children. Hats, umbrellas, sun screen and shade are great ways to ward off the bad part while still enjoying the wonderful sunshine and soaking up some great Vitamin D. As we all know, this wonderful weather can't last forever,...

It is a Tuesday morning and Lisa Frink is setting up video equipment in a JA Wendt Elementary school classroom. “Where did you get all of that stuff?” a student asks of her camera and tripod. “It belongs to 4-H,” replies Frink who serves as the 4-H Youth Mobilization and Leadership Coordinator for Wahkiakum County. “I thought 4-H was all about raising animals,” says the girl in the front of the class. “Not anymore,” Frink answers. Today 4-H is everywhere and it is the largest youth development organization in the nation. The United States h...
With hay prices rising recently, it is no surprise that local farmers jumped on their tractors this week to take advantage of the dry weather. For the best results, farmers look for a three or four day window of dry weather. Rain may not completely ruin cut hay, but it will decrease the yield, which is not ideal. Traditionally, farmers prefer to wait an extra couple of weeks to cut hay than to cut their hay and have it hit by rain. “Last year’s weather was so hit and miss,” recalled one Grays River resident, “They only got one cut.” This year...

To The Eagle: I am getting sick and tired of all these teenagers who think people actually want to read their opinions. Their frivolous opinions fill valuable print space more suitable for stories about city counselmen bickering. Children should aspire to be more like adults. They should be more petty, hateful, and obsessed with the size of their neighbors pick-up trucks. Adulthood is a solemn serious task, a daily regimen of mental hygiene duties. The last thing I need as an adult is the starry eyed idealistic musing of teenagers and their...

They were very attentive to our needs in this area. Rep. Takko stated he thought they could find funding for a dredge, but also he and Rep. Blake suggested the Wahkiakum Port Districts contact the Ports of Ilwaco and Chinook for a...
To The Eagle: The people who call themselves Mule fans do not go to the games, meets, and matches equally they favor one sport over another. The boys basketball team gets bigger crowds than girls basketball even though the games happen right after each other. The cross country and volleyball teams do not get the same big crowd as football. Also the wrestling and track teams do not get crowds the same as football or boys basketball even though track and wrestling are our school's most successful sports in which we have state participants every...
