When Susan “Lulu” Briggs and her daughter, Amber Nara shook hands on a five year with option to buy lease with the owner of what had been Mace’s Drive-In, they thought their troubles were over. They were wrong. “We initially found this on Facebook,” Nara said. “The ad stated that it was known throughout the Pacific Northwest, that it had been in his family a long time and that it was up and running. The history behind it was really awesome. “It was what we were looking for,” Nara continued. “We...
Wahkiakum County commissioners on Tuesday authorized Assessor Bill Coons to hire an experienced appraiser to fill a vacancy on his staff. Appraiser Michelle Lobue is moving from the area, and Coons wanted to fill the position with a candidate with over 20 years appraising experience. Commissioners approved Coons's recommendation to hire the new person at a salary level that reflected that experience rather than requiring the person to start at the bottom of the salary schedule. The salary is covered by the budget, Coons said. Commissioners appr...
Nicole Burkhalter and Rachel Katyryniuk are bringing coffee to Skamokawa. Their business, Ship Channel Coffee, is located in a new food cart at Vista Park and the two are just about ready for their opening day this Friday. Sisters, they belie the 13 years difference in ages with a close family bond, a value instilled in them by their parents Terry and Kim Tarabochia. Though they, along with a brother, grew up in the Grays River area and attended school in Naselle, there has always been a great...
To The Eagle: Suppose you tasked a group of bankers to devise a money system for a nation, a system in which the bankers would have complete control. This leaves it to them to come up with a system that would be very good for bankers but not so good for everyone else or a system that would be beneficial for everyone. Will they pick a system that is good for bankers instead of one that benefits everyone? History shows that they will do so one hundred percent of the time. Surprised? The world has swallowed the lie that what is good for the...
To The Eagle: Am I surprised? No, but very disappointed. So much talk of a smaller government, het the ‘machine’ keeps growing, adding to the cost of “protecting” us from ourselves. The biosolid decision is an example of government telling us what we can’t do, showing their power, while collecting wages paid by us. Why in the world they had the farce of a hearing is beyond my understanding. There was approximately 90 percent (or more) opposition to it. The following commissioners meetings were well attended with same percent against. Examples...

GREAT DAYS--We had a great batch of sunny, dry days for Mother's Day weekend and from all the pictures I saw and things I read, it looked like everyone was enjoying them fully. Who would have guessed that we would be sitting in 80 degree weather in early May? This week we're seeing some raindrops but if all goes well, we'll be seeing a decent weekend. Around here, the forecast can change in a heartbeat, so who knows? Considering the tornadoes, snow, flash flooding and earthquakes in other areas, we have no reason to be complaining. Our thoughts...

Dixon said the “big story” of the current water year are temperatures in Washington and Oregon that have de...
