    , 2009 A 16-year-old boy faces a charge of first degree arson following a fire last Wednesday morning in Rosedale. Cathlamet and District 4 firemen were dispatched to the home. Deputy Sheriff Mike Balch also responded and arrived before the firemen. "The woman living there told me she had put it out," he said. "It was basically a smoke filled house."     Wahkiakum PUD Auditor Erin Wilson reported to the board of commissioners Tuesday that Mike Johnson, engineer for Gray & Osborne has still not received the permits for the SR 409 wetlands project, but he hopes they will come soon.   • Port District 2 gets job placement grant

    , 2009 Port District 2 of Wahkiakum County has received a grant and contract with the SW Washington Workforce Development Council that funds hiring eight low income youth and young adults, ages 14-24. The funding originated with the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. One half of the workers are to be still attending school and one half are to be no longer attending school.     , 2009 Cody Olsen led the Wahkiakum Mule golf team with a 10th place finish last week in the state Class 2B and 1B Golf Tournament in Kennewick. Olsen finished the two rounds of competition with a 155 score. He shot 79 the first day and 76 the second.     , 2009 Wahkiakum County residents will be able to dispose of household hazardous wastes for free this Saturday. Workers from the Cowlitz County Solid Waste Department will be at Wahkiakum PUD parking lot on Division street from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to collect the waste.     Wahkiakum Mules Jasmine Bingham and Sarah Doumit each won championships at the Class 2B State Track and Field Meet last weekend at Cheney. Bingham won the 100m, 12.91, and 200m, 26.38, and long jump, 17'3", a new school record, and Doumit won the high jump, 5'3". The pair were also members of the 800m relay team with Abby Burns and Shelby Deaton which placed second in 1:49.84.
