    The Wahkiaum Mules’ baseball season virtually came to an end this past week as the Mules dropped a pair of road games at Morton-White Pass and were swept at home by Toutle Lake. Last Thursday, the Mules hit the road to take on the Timberwolves and lost 9-8 in an offensive battle in the opener before falling 2-0 in a pitching duel of a nightcap.     Richard Earl Gibbons, age 82, of Vancouver, Washington, passed away on April 23, 2013. He was born on November 27, 1930 in Portland, Oregon. On March 26, 1957, Richard married his lifetime friend, Billie Jean Rich, who passed on November 27, 2008. Richard served four years in the Navy. He worked and retired from the mechanic industry.     James “Ralph” Swett, of Longview, died April 28, 2013 at the Hospice Care Center in Longview. He was born March 20, 1926 in Longview, to Walt and Hazel Reeves Swett. He attended Longview and Kelso schools and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On August 7, 1948 he married his wife, Elsa in Kelso. James was a Millwright and Maintenance Supervisor for Weyerhaeuser for 35 years, retiring in 1982.     The rate of unemployment in Wahkiakum County has declined slightly over the past year, according to the latest figures from the state Employment Security Department. The figures said 190 of 1,540 people in the labor force, 12.1 percent, were unemployed in March. In February, 200 of 1,560 in the labor force, 12.9 percent, were unemployed. The county's unemployment rate was sixth highest in the state in March. In March 2012, 190 of 1,480 in the labor force, 13 percent, were unemployed.
