    The women of Grays River Friendship Circle have combined their sixth annual Spring Tea and Luncheon: “ Keeping You In Stitches and Tea”, with a display of local residents’ needlework, and a power-point slide show history of Grays River Valley Pioneers.   • Metal thieves cut phone lines

    Telephone service to Skamokawa was interrupted early Tuesday when suspected metal thieves cut telephone cable west of Cathlamet along SR 4. Wahkiakum Sheriff's Department deputies investigated and found that a 1000-1200 foot section of cable wire was missing near Milepost 33. Deputy Sheriff Jeff Fithen said Tuesday afternoon that a vehicle possibly associated with the theft was located; it was carrying tools possibly used in the cutting of the cable.     A possible change in graduation requirements was the main topic of discussion in the April 23 meeting of the Wahkiakum School Board. Wahkiakum Principal Loren Davis gave the board a Power Point presentation outlining the possible change in graduation requirements for math. The policy that now exists requires students to take two years of math. When they enter high school as freshmen, Davis said, they are automatically scheduled for their first year and will often finish the requirement by the end of their sophomore year.     April 24,2008 at Skyline Golf Course, Cathlamet Wahkiakum 178, Adna 210 Cody Olsen carded a 39 to claim Medalist as the Wahkiakum Mule golf team defeated Adna. He broke a school record he shared with Cole Claussen last year, 40. Other Mule scores were Claussen, 45, Justin McClain 45 and Chase Fritzie 49.     As summer approaches, the Wahkiakum Family Practice Clinic is sending out a reminder that pre-participation sports physical exams will soon be due.     Twenty local models showed the variety of fashions available in Cathlamet at a recent Fashion Show. The models ranged from two years of age to young adults and the clothes, chosen by the models, were donated by the community, and were clean, of good quality, and ready to wear off the rack.     Oregon state officials are backing off in their demands that Wahkiakum County pay a $750 fee to lease the submerged tidelands over which the ferry Wahkiakum travels. Last fall, the Oregon Department of State Lands (DSL) informed Wahkiakum Public Works Director Pete Ringen that the fee was due and that the county needed to provide a survey of the route used by the ferry as it traveled through waters of the State of Oregon.
