No digging will be allowed after noon on any beach through Saturday. However, WDFW is extending the dig on Sunday, May 10, to 1 p.m. "We're giving diggers an extra hour to wrap things up on Sunday due to the late low tide that day," said Dan Ayres,...

  • State prevails in biosolids suit

    Rick Nelson|Apr 30, 2015

Wahkiakum County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Bigelow learned Wednesday that the state supreme court has declined to hear his appeal of a court of appeals decision that would invalidate the county's biosolids ordinance. This means the state Department of Ecology prevails, and the county doesn't have the authority to prohibit the application of two of three classes of biosolids on land in the county. Responding to concerns from Westend residents about the application of Class B biosolids at a Grays River Valley farm, commissioners adopted an...

  • Her pleasure comes from developing her art

    Diana Zimmerman|Apr 30, 2015
    1

Juanita Rodahl has been painting for most of her life. Mostly self taught, it gives her a lot of pleasure. "In high school I would find pictures I liked and copy them," Rodahl said. "I'd draw pictures of people and different things. I took a class in high school, but I don't remember too much about it. It was just something fun to do and it pleased me, which is what it should be, I guess." Acrylics, charcoal and pens and pencils are Rodahl's favorite tools. There was a time when she used oils,...

  • Understanding transgender

    Rick Nelson|Apr 30, 2015

It's not everyday that one outs oneself on national television. That's what Olympic gold medalist Bruce Jenner did last Friday on ABC News with Diane Sawyer. Jenner recounted how even as a youngster, he felt he was female in a male body, how he tried to deal with that reality, and how at age 65, he has decided to embrace it. "Yes, for all intents and purposes, I am a woman," he said. Because feelings of gender identity are deeply personal, people don't usually share them in public. It's very hard for individuals to reveal to family and friends...

We appreciate the Naselle Youth Camp mowing just before our clean-up day too. Many hands make the duties enjoyable and lots of stories can be heard....

Our representatives proper business is improvement, not to give their responsibilities as elected representatives away to the agencies that they create and are not elected. Thousands of rules and regulations are made each year by these agencies and most are not voted...

  • New exhibit at Redmen Hall

    Kay Chamberlain|Apr 30, 2015

MIX OF WEATHER--One thing about last weekend's weather, if you didn't like it one minute, it seemed to change the next, at least down this way! It was pouring in West Valley when I left our house on Saturday, but just two miles east, it was sunny and warm and I felt sort of silly in my coat and hat! It was cloudy all day Sunday here, with showers coming and going, so while it wasn't super nice, it was pretty good weather to work in as it certainly kept you from working up a sweat! However, by late afternoon, it was just plain wet, so it was...
