    Wahkiakum Youth Baseball teams squeezed their first home games in before the rain on Saturday April 26. Majors Division team Moore Auto and Major/Minor Division team Luce Excavation both won their games against Longview teams. Rookie Division team Sharon’s Pizza had an excellent game, along with T-ball teams Weatherguard, Cathlamet Market and Cathlamet Chevron.     Mule Alumni gathered on Saturday to put on a show for a crowd of supporters in an event organized by Wahkiakum High School student Maya Stanley to raise money for the Lady Mules Basketball team.     The Wahkiakum Mule Track team traveled to Naselle on April 22 to compete in the Comet Invite. The boys scored seven points and came in 10th place out of 10 teams. The girls were able to place sixth out of 11 teams with 64 points. Grace Peacock took third in the 100 meters with a time of 13.63. Tyra Elliott wasn’t too far behind and took fifth with a time of 13.80. Peacock also took second place in the 200 meters with a time of 28.89. Elliott won the 400 meters with a time of 1:09.03.     The Mule Baseball team traveled to Napavine last Thursday and lost two in a double header, 2-3 and 1-2. Gunnar Blix pitched the first game. Mason Mackey and Travis Wegdahl both had an RBI.     The Wahkiakum Mules softball team traveled to Napavine last week for a doubleheader and lost 1-20 and 6-16. The first game got off to a good start when Sam Boyce hit the ball to the fence, and a single by Kennedi LaBerge brought Boyce home. Sydney Hansen also got a hit and “played a mean third base”, according to Coach Cindy Fudge. “Game two was much better,” Fudge said.     The WahkiakumMule golf team avenged a recent loss to Willapa Valley with a 177 to 189 victory at home, Skyline Golf Course, last Thursday. The Mules also beat Adna 207, Raymond, who played incomplete, and South Bend, incomplete, moving their intra-team season record to 19-4.     Wayne Edward Helms, 65 of Skamokawa was killed in a traffic accident March 7, 2014, in Yuma, Ariz., after his motorcycle was rear-ended by a car. Wayne was born Nov. 20, 1948, in Vancouver, to Dock F. and Mary D. (Moore) Helms. He grew up in Longview and attended Mark Morris High School. Wayne received a baccalaureate degree in theology from Triune Biblical University after also studying at Liberty University of Lynchburg, Va., Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake, Wash., and Lower Columbia College in Longview.
