    Wahkiakum County commissioners on Tuesday signed a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission taking issue with some comments by Bradwood Landing and NorthernStar Natural Gas.     St. James Family Center is looking for adults and older teens who would like to volunteer to teach a class to young people this summer. The class is a part of the Summer Youth Adventure Program (YAP) scheduled to begin June 23 and continue through mid-August.     Visitors to the Wahkiakum Historical Museum will be charged a fee effective May 1 to cover operating expenses. The new fees are $3 for 18-54 year olds and $1.50 for those 55 and older. Active duty military personnel and their immediate families, Historical Society members and persons under 18 will be admitted for free. George Butkus is retiring this month after 15 years as manager of the Bank of the Pacific. Butkus started in the industry in 1961 as a "gofer," where, he said, he learned all the intricacies of banking.     Two local watercolor artists, Mitzi Christensen of Cathlamet and Gayle Kiser of Kelso, will install an exhibit of their work at the Redmen Hall in Skamokawa. An opening reception is planned for noon to 3 p.m. on May 3 for the exhibit, entitled "Water Stories," which the two women describe as "a reflection of our lives spent on river and sea."     The Helping Hand food bank has served Wahkiakum county for 14 years and in December, the board noticed that the majority of the 100 clients that visit each month lived within a 15 mile radius of the food bank. The board of directors decided that starting in January it would make a concentrated effort to reach people who need help on the west side of the county. On every third Tuesday of the month, a group of volunteers load up a van and travel to the Rosburg/Grays River/Deep River area with an average of 50-60 pounds of food for each family....

    Wahkiakum County Health and Human Services still has openings available in its Driver Safety Program being held in Cathlamet on April 30 and May 1. The eight hour program will be held at the River Street Building from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. each day. People of any age are welcome; all participants must bring a driver's license.     Wahkiakum County officials are watching developments in the timber and financial markets with a close eye these days. A large portion of the revenue to fund the Current Expense Fund, which finances most courthouse services, comes from the sale of timber on state managed timber trust lands. The Washington Department of Natural Resources predicted the county would receive about $2.1 million in 2008.     Members of the Cathlamet Town Council approved Monday a new method of amending their budgets and also some budget amendments to accomplish beautification and park repair work. The council took final action to amend its budget ordinance, allowing amendments to be made at one meeting.
