Lira Grace Abena was born at 10:54 a.m. on April 1, 2018, to Kevin and Heather Abena. She weighed 7 lbs. 7 oz. and was 21.5 inches long. The Wahkiakum Lions Club honored Morgan Bashore as the March Student of The Month at their meeting on Monday evening. She is the daughter of Roy and Danelle Bashore. The Wahkiakum Mule track and field team traveled to Mossyrock last Thursday for a Central 2B meet. They competed against teams from Pe Ell, Morton/White Pass, and Mossyrock. The Mules dominated the 800 meters with freshman Braxton Johns taking first for the boys, and Ellie Leitz winning the event for the girls. Clam diggers have one last chance to dig razor clams this season during the final opening set to begin April 19. State shellfish managers with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) approved the dig after marine toxin tests showed the clams are safe to eat. Members of the Wahkiakum High School golf team were among the injured in a five-vehicle traffic accident at 1:25 p.m. Thursday. According to a report from the Washington State Patrol, the team was in a 2005 Ford Excursion, fourth in a line of eastbound vehicles stopped for highway maintenance work near milepost 44, about two miles west of County Line Park.
