  • Workshop on Small Lot Landscaping set

    On April 11 at 6:30 p.m., Debbie Caffall will demonstrate how to bring texture, form, shape, functionality, balance and color into landscape lots. She will lead participants through common mistakes made by the novice landscaper. Caffall has owned and operated her own landscape business for over 25 years.     St. James Church is sponsoring their third annual English Tea from noon to 2:30 p.m. on April 30. The gym at the St. James Family Center will be transformed into a tea garden with flowers, linen and fine china. Savory and sweet items will be available along with scones and jam and unlimited cups of tea, all overseen by two expatriate Brits.     There are still slots available in AARP's Driver Safety Program being held in Cathlamet on April 27-28, sponsored by Wahkiakum County Health and Human Services. The eight hour program is being held at the River Street Meeting Room in Cathlamet from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. each day.     The Leroy Burns Rock Pit Pond will be open weekends beginning the last weekend of April until the last weekend of May. The pond will only be open to children under 14 years old; those aged eight and under begin fishing at 8:30 a.m., all children under 14 begin at 9:30 a.m. The ponds close at 7 p.m. The pond is located at the Leroy Burns rock pit site approximately 4 miles up Elochoman Valley Road and all anglers must bring their own bait and tackle and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.     This year’s Cispus trip for all 8th grade students is being scheduled for May 14-16 and the school is seeking participants and parent chaperones. Cost of this program is covered through a grant from Wahkiakum Community Network, Wahkiakum County Health and Human Services, and Wahkiakum School District. Registration materials will be sent home after Spring Break and will be due back before May 6.   • Chamber looking for Bald Eagle vendors

    The Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce is preparing to host the Bald Eagle Days Festival and Wooden Boat Show for the 30th year this summer. Over 4,000 attendees are expected at the event which begins on July 16, with vendors, parade, activities and fireworks and closes on July 17, after the Wooden Boat Festival.
