    When Wahkiakum High School held a dodge ball tournament to raise money for Doernbecher Childrens Hospital, even the school board stepped up to form a team. Left to right are future Superintendent Brent Freeman, Librarian Joyce Wilson, and school board directors Robin Westphall and Paula Culbertson. It was the first game of dodgeball for some of them.     Verena "Frana" Nepsund, 94, longtime Cathlamet resident, died March 15, 2018 at Hospice Care Center in Longview. Frana was born to Hans and Hilda Fluckiger on January 23, 1924 in Hustisford, WI. In 1937 at age 13, her family moved to Puget Island. She graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1942. On February 4, 1945 she married Norman Nepsund and he preceded her in 1961.     Last week the Wahkiakum Mules baseball team won two more games at home to bring their record to 6-0 in league, 6-1 overall. They are currently in first place in the Central 2B league. On Wednesday, the Mules beat Onalaska 6-4. On offense, Zach Brown hit a double and drove in one run. Starting pitcher Ashden Niemeyer faced 23 batters in five innings.     A young and ever improving Wahkiakum Mule softball team lost three more games this week. On March 28, the Lady Mules lost to Onalaska 22-2. "Fielding went well," Coach Stephanie Green said, "and the girls are improving with hitting." Jordyn Watson pitched for the first time. On offense, she hit a triple and a single.     The Wahkiakum Mules hosted Pe Ell, Toledo, and Toutle Lake at their only Central 2B home meet last Thursday. The Mule boys took fourth place with 11.5 points and the girls took second with 64 points. For the boys, junior Quentin Nelson won the javelin event with a throw of 149-00.     The School Club Roundup is a contest in February among schools across the country each trying to contact via radio as many other schools as possible. The results were just published this week: Our high school radio club with support from the Wahkiakum Amateur Radio Club (N7WAH) placed 13th overall amongst high schools. The N7WAH club provided the equipment for the Amateur Radio station located in the Tech room as Wahkiakum High School.
