The Lady Mules softball team played at home on Tuesday and lost twice in a double header with Onalaska. NICE BEGINNING--I was a bit surprised to see a sunny day last Sunday, as the forecast had looked pretty wet, so after a super soggy Saturday, the blue sky and sunshine was truly welcomed. Considering the cold areas east of us and the earthquakes south of us in California, I was feeling pretty good about our weather. I was happy to hear from a cousin of mine, Karla Kyle, who said they faired the earthquake just fine but that you could sure tell the tourists and the newcomers to the area, as they...

Red tape in the form of a moratorium will only slow Shane Kehrli and Chris Bianchi who are in the process of setting up a legal marijuana grow operation in Wahkiakum County. Kehrli grew up in Cathlamet, and Bianchi followed his family here a few years ago after his mother fell and hurt a hip while working on their property. The two young men met over baseball and soon discovered that they shared a common vocation, being involved in providing medical marijuana. Kehrli knew even then that things...
The Western Wahkiakum Water System was the hot topic at Tuesday’s Wahkiakum PUD Board of Commissioners meeting. According to a report prepared by Manager Dave Tramblie, the average monthly bill for ratepayers on the Westend is about $65. “To increase that is definitely a hardship on some of those people,” Commissioner Dennis Reid said. Commissioner Gene Healy agreed and pointed out that the rates have been the highest in the state for some time. According to Tramblie the $6,000 inventory allot...

Here are just a few of my recent and ongoing efforts to improve opportunities for women in t...

To The Eagle: ]I never thought this would happen but I find myself totally agreeing with Howard Brawn, specifically his recent letter regarding the proposed pot-growing moratorium. I do have a couple of thoughts of my own. Twenty-odd years ago I found it necessary for a variety of reasons to part ways with alcohol and pot. This was accomplished with a little help from my friends (and You-Know-Who) and I have yet to regret this choice. But the point I’m trying to make is that I never saw fit to insist that it was time for everyone else to q...
