With hundreds of items to choose from, the community auction provided an afternoon of family fun. To those who braved the spring weather, thank you for coming and showing your support. Rick Nelson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Apr 2, 2009

As Wahkiakum County officials suspected, they won't receive as much revenue from state managed timber sales as they were informed last week. Department of Natural Resources Manager Marcus Johns and Forester Collin Robertson reported March 24 that the county could expect to receive $1.2 million in timber revenue this year, but after county Treasurer Paula Holloway questioned their figures, they said they would go back to their office and double check. At the end of the week, Johns reported to Holloway that estimated revenue for 2009 would be...

    Sunny Manary|Apr 2, 2009

Wahkiakum County taxpayers last year flooded the county Board of Equalization with a record number of appeals of their property tax assessments in 2008. In the 2008, there were around 70 appeals, according to board Clerk Muriel Prestegard. The amount of appeals has risen dramatically over the past several years, she said. When Prestegard first became clerk four years ago, there were only 10-15 a year. That jumped to 50-60 appeals in 2007. After having their appeals heard, some people did withdraw their appeals, but many took them to the...

  • Investigations continueinto arson fires

    Eagle staff writers|Apr 2, 2009

Law enforcement authorities are investigating their second arson fire to occur in Wahkiakum County within eight days. The old house, a landmark because of its high garage doors just across the road from the Grays River, had been unoccupied for years, said Wahkiakum County Deputy Sheriff Hans York....
