  • Church offers 12-step addiction program

    Cathlamet Christian Fellowship (CCF) church is offering a faith-based, 12-step program to help people handle a variety of addictions. The program, called Celebrate Recovery, was started 17 years ago in an Anaheim, Calif., church, said Shane Skinner, local program leader. The CCF started offering the program a year ago. It meets on Fridays, starting with a 6 p.m. meal provided by the church. Then the participants have a large group education session and break into small groups to finish the evening.     Wahkiakum Mule track and field athletes got their season off to a start Saturday at the Rainier Ice Breaker Invitational. The Mule girls finished sixth overall and the Mule boys were 12th.   • Naselle school board addresses NYC

    The uncertainty of the Naselle Youth Camp continues to be the main issue of discussion at the Naselle Grays River Valley School Board meetings. On March 17, the Department of Natural Resources announced they would be pulling forest work crews at the camp at the end of May. Aaron Toso, communications director for DNR, said it has nothing to do with potential camp closure.     Seattle jazz band Hot Club Sandwich will play at the Skamokawa Grange on April 18 at 7 p.m. The six member band features the instrumentation of guitars, upright bass, mandolin and violin.     Fisher Poet Dave Densmore and songwriter Alexa Wiley will perform music and poetry together April 3 in Skamokawa at the Redmen Hall River Life Interpretive Center. Their performance is called "For the Love of Fish" and will be from 7-9 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Densmore was born and raised in Alaska on Kodiak and various Aleutian Island villages.   • Fire damages WHS bleachers

    A suspected arson fire damaged the Wahkiakum High School stadium bleachers Saturday afternoon. Officers from the Longview Fire Department and Wahkiakum County Sheriff's Department are investigating the cause of the fire, which may be arson. Meanwhile, damage to the bleachers, especially the roof, led Wahkiakum School District Superintendent Bob Garrett to reschedule track meets set for middle and high school athletes for other venues.     Wahkiakum County officials are a bit closer to understanding the county's financial health after meeting with representatives of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) on Tuesday. The DNR manages the county's 12,900 acres of trust timberland, and harvest of timber is an important revenue for the county's Current Expense Fund, which finances most courthouse services.
