Razor clam diggers will have a few more beaches to consider in late March and April, following a decision March 8 by state shellfish managers to add digs to a list of dates previously announced. WET AND WILD--We sure had a couple of days last week that were opposite of each other, as Friday was gorgeous and we were running around in shirt sleeves, while it was nothing but rain and wind on Saturday. By Sunday morning, the water was just going over the edges of West Valley road, so we're glad it let up when it did. As of this writing, many "lakes" are still visible as the ground is so saturated that it's not going anywhere too fast, so we'll hope for clearer skies this coming week as promised so that we get to see our "green" again!...

Lucinda Angeline (Lou Ann) Pederson passed away on February 18, 2014 in Glendale, California. Lou Ann was born on May 2, 1930 to Elmer and Jessie Danielsen in Seattle and grew up on Puget Island. She married Kenneth Pederson in 1949 they celebrated their 65th anniversary this year. Lou Ann lived an active life of community service. She was a past PTA president of Julius Wendt Elementary School; she spent many years teaching Sunday and Vacation Bible School at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church; and was a Girl Scout Leader. After “demobilizing” for the winter, contractors will return this spring to the Julia Butler Hansen White Tailed Deer Refuge to finish the setback dike. The setback levee is in place but more work needs to be done, according to US Army Corps of Engineers representative, Amy Gibbons. This past Saturday, eight Wahkiakum High School students attend their first Robotics Competition and came with prizes for their work. The event hosted 50 different schools competing in a Science Olympiad style robotics challenge. The event was called the Zillah Robot Challenge hosted by Zillah High School. Completion of a wetland habitat improvement project will impact traffic on S4 this summer. A contractor will replace two culverts under the highway in the vicinity of Milepost 34. Construction will start in July and finish in August, according to Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) engineer Paul Harrison. The 21st annual St. Patrick’s Day parade sponsored by Misty Rivers Irish Wolfhounds will take place on Monday, March 17, which is St. Patrick’s Day.
